SIGN IN AND SIGN OUT: Every Student will be signed in using the Class For Kids software. The child will be handed back to the parent once the session is finished. The teacher must see the parent before handing over. If someone else is collecting your child you must inform a teacher otherwise we will not be able to let them go until we have been in contact with you.
ABSCONDING / LATENESS: If you arrive to your lessons 10 minute late, then we have the right to refuse entry to your class. This is to ensure the safety of student as a proper warm up is needed before the lesson starts. Please arrive 5 or 10 minutes before your lesson. An appropriate cool down must be completed before a student goes home so if they need to leave early, please inform a teacher.
VIOLENCE/ USE OF WEAPONS: If staff or students are thought to be at risk by the actions of any student, we will take precautions needed to ensure everyone's safety for example, evacuation of the area of risk. We reserve the right to call the Police. Force will only be used to enhance safety of the students and in consideration of individual needs (i.e. SEN, age etc.).
EQUALITY: East Sussex School of Circus Arts offer circus training to a diverse range of students, we offer private sessions to students who may need extra support, this is based on availability on a first come first serve basis on a Friday.
USE OF WORDS: All members of our community will always be challenged for using offensive, discriminating and/or intimidating words. Everybody has the right to be safe and not to be spoken to in such a way. It is everyone's duty to ensure that this is a reality at the School. Language is always offensive if it is:
● Threatening
● Sexist and/or Sexualised
● Racist
● Homophobic
● Disrespectful of individuals’ beliefs or religion
● Disrespectful of individuals’ physical appearance.
SAFEGUARDING: East Sussex School of Circus Arts ensure that all teachers are DBS checked, have safeguarding training and their is always a first aider in the class. Should a child sustain an injury whilst taking part in any of our classes an accident report will be filled out (sometimes a witness statement) and the parent/carer will be required to sign this upon collection. For any serious injuries we will call the emergency contact number and 999 if required.
FORCE OF MAJEURE A “Force Majeure Event” occurs when we can continue ( war, fire, death, illness, weather or other capacity certified by a properly qualified medical practitioner, epidemic, accident, civil commotion, national calamity, order of Government or Local Authority having jurisdiction in the matter, changes in law, foreign government policy or any act beyond human control) and which is not attributable to any act or failure to take preventive action by the Artist or Client.
PAYMENTS AND REFUNDS All bookings must be done fourteen (7) days prior to the classes starting - paid via class for kids. refunds are not available but can be transferred to another term, If the term starts and you have attended one class and you can't continue the term this is not refundable.
BULLYING: Bullying in any form will not be tolerated. A bully is an individual who torments others through verbal harassment, physical assault or more subtle methods of coercion. This includes cyber-bullying. If bullying is identified, then action will be taken accordingly. This could jeopardize your place within the school.
CAR PARKING: Please make sure you park at East Sussex School of Circus Arts and not at the Ski Centre or Knockhatch Adventure Park as these are separate business. If parking is in a different location you will be informed
CLOTHING/ UNIFORMS/EQUIPMENT: All students are required to purchase an ESSCA T-shirt which are available on our website - other clothing is also available such as jumpers and trousers. Full length trousers must be worn all year round to reduce the risk of injuries. All students are also required to purchase a handbook from our website so that the students and the teachers can keep track of their progress - these are also really helpful for if the students want to take part in the showcase which is in July. Please also bring a water bottle to keep hydrated.
MOBILE PHONES/PHOTOGRAPHY AND VIDEO: Students are not allowed to use phone for photography whilst in class unless they have asked for permission and they must make sure no other child is in the photo.
PARENTS/CARERS WATCHING: Due to Health and Safety reasons parents are not allowed in to watch the sessions - in some circumstances they may be allowed in for the first trial. At the end of each term we allow parents in for the last 30 minutes where each child will show you something they have learnt over the past 6 weeks. Teachers will also produce a report of each student each term (3x a year)
DRUGS or ALCOHOL: Drugs and alcohol are not permitted on site and will be confiscated and handed over to the Police. Students perceived to be under the influence will be considered unfit for school and learning, and in respect of this, will be asked to leave the premises. The Student will be registered as ill and staff will contact next of kin. East Sussex School of Circus Arts will encourage that students are seen by a medical professional to ensure they are fit and healthy.
CCTV: We use CCTV on our premises and within the building, these are there to protect, staff, teachers, students and anyone else who may enter our premises.
DAMAGE TO PROPERTY: All incidents of damage will be recorded and Renato Pires (Founder/Director) will be notified. We will use CCTV recording and/or pictures of the damage to ascertain responsibility and inform the perpetrator with a request for a contribution towards the cost of repair or replacement of the object damaged. We all take personal responsibility for our actions by taking a restorative approach to harm. In that spirit an alternative to payment could be for the student to contribute time to repair the damage or take part in the maintenance work. This will be agreed by all and supervised by staff. Repeated acts of damage or vandalism will result in police involvement and legal action.
REFUSAL/ NON ENGAGEMENT WITH LEARNING: Students that harm the learning environment consistently and/or do not engage with lessons will be given 3 warnings. Once the third warning is given, you will be asked by the instructor to leave the premises. A meeting to follow up on such behaviour will be appointed. Continuous refusal can lead to dismissal of the school.
STEALING: Stealing is a criminal offense. All incidents of theft that are not immediately resolved will be reported to the police.
SMOKING: Smoking is not permitted on the East Sussex School of Circus Arts premises, except from designated areas.

WAIVER:
In consideration of the services of East Sussex School of Circus Arts, their agents, owners, officers, volunteers, participants, employees, and all other persons or entities acting in any capacity on their behalf, I hereby agree to release, indemnify, and discharge East Sussex School of Circus Arts, on behalf of myself, my spouse, my children, my parents, my heirs, assigns, personal representative and estate as follows:
I acknowledge that myself or my child’s participation in circus arts, aerial arts, aerial silks, flexibility, strengthening, floor based or airborne acrobatic training, jumping, handstands, hand balance, contortion and all prop-based skill manipulations (ie. staff/poi/diablo/hula hoop and similar) instruction activities and aerial disciplines (including but not limited to; Trapeze, Lyra/Aerial Hoop, Corde Lisse/Aerial Rope, Cloud Swing, Straps, Aerial Hammock, Silks), entails known and unanticipated risks that could result in physical or emotional injury, paralysis, death, or damage to myself, to property, or to third parties. I understand that such risks simply cannot be eliminated without jeopardising the essential qualities of the activity.
The risks include, among other things: slips and falls; falling from equipment; rope burns; pinches, scrapes, twists and jolts that could result in scratches, bruises, sprains, lacerations, fractures, concussions, or even more severe life threatening hazards; strains, cuts, muscle soreness and fractures; musculoskeletal injuries including head, neck, and back; injuries to internal organs; the negligence of other people; the user’s own physical condition; and the risk of emotional and psychological injuries or physical damage associated with this activity.
In any event, if you or your child is injured, any medical assistance will be at your own expense.
By accessing any of our open sessions, you immediately agree to the following terms:
1. I agree and promise to accept and assume all of the risks existing in this activity. My participation in this activity is purely voluntary, and I elect to participate in spite of the risks.
2. I hereby voluntarily release, forever discharge, and agree to indemnify and hold harmless East Sussex School of Circus Arts from any and all claims, demands, or causes of action, which are in any way connected with my participation in this activity or my use of East Sussex School of Circus Arts equipment or facilities, including any such claims which allege negligent acts or omissions of East Sussex School of Circus Arts.
3. Should East Sussex School of Circus Arts or anyone acting on their behalf, be required to incur attorney’s fees and costs to enforce this agreement, I agree to indemnify and hold them harmless for all such fees and costs.
4. I certify that I have adequate personal liability insurance to cover any injury or damage I may cause or suffer while participating in this activity. Otherwise, I agree to bear the costs of such injury or damage myself. I further certify that I am willing to assume the risk of any medical or physical condition I may have. Meanwhile, all teachers are insured for Public Liability. However, this does not hold the school accountable or liable for any acts of negligence, indecent behaviour or non compliance from clients in association with the teachers and against compliance of the school rules and waiver.
5. I agree that if any portion of this agreement is found to be void or unenforceable, the remaining document shall remain in full force and effect.
6. By accepting the terms of this document, I acknowledge that if anyone is hurt or property is damaged during my participation in this activity, I may be found by a court of law to have waived my right to maintain a lawsuit against East Sussex School of Circus Arts on the basis of any claim from which I have released them herein. I have had sufficient opportunity to read this entire document. I have read and understood it, and I agree to be bound by its terms.
